Shoppers visiting The Rock during the school holidays could be in with a chance of winning a dream family holiday to Mexico.

We’re running a competition to win the £3,500 prize – and entries open on Saturday 29th July.

Visitors to the centre can pick up an entry form – in the guise of a boarding pass – from participating retailers and then must find the numbers which make up the code and enter for their chance to win.

The boarding pass puzzle will run until August 19th. Each Saturday from July 29th to the end of the competition there will also be four extra activities, all based on holidays.

On Saturday 29th July there will be a cash grabber where shoppers will have a chance to win holiday currency.

On Saturday 5th August visitors can pose in a beach-themed peep board and share their photo online with the #hotattherock for the chance to win a haul of holiday essentials. There’ll also be Sombrero biscuit decorating in conjunction with Bury College.

On Saturday 12th August, the challenge will be to crack the code on the a chest of goodies to win the contents and on the final Saturday of the summer of fun, on Saturday 19th August, the beach at the centre will be transformed into a game for people to dig for buried treasure and win a range or prizes.

All throughout the summer holidays the centre will also host a beach, giant deck chair and its popular water ball walkers as well as face painting to raise funds for the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity.

The Rock’s centre director, Arnold Wilcox-Wood, said: “The school holidays are a great time for all the family, but we know that keeping everyone entertained can be a challenge, that’s why we’re hosting a variety of activities to keep the children – and the adults – entertained. There’s some great prizes up for grabs, including a dream holiday to Mexico, so visit us to enter, after all you’ve got to be in it to win it.”

Families enjoy Easter holiday fun at The Rock

Children from across Bury and beyond stepped into the magical world of Alice in Wonderland at The Rock over the Easter weekend.

The centre hosted a range of free activities for families to enjoy – including the chance to meet and pose for a photo with Alice, the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter.

On Good Friday and Saturday visitors to the centre were also able to enjoy free face painting, Easter egg decorating and a treasure hunt with a difference – where shoppers had to find the six alarm clocks hidden in shop windows to be in with the chance of winning a prize.

And, on Saturday customers were entertained by the popular Lancashire Fusiliers band. The fun culminated with a free Punch and Judy magic show on Easter Monday.

The Rock’s centre director, Arnold Wilcox-Wood, said: “We’re thrilled so many people came along to enjoy our Alice in Wonderland themed event over the Easter weekend. We know finding ways to keep the children entertained during the holidays can be a challenge – so this was a small Easter gift from us to our shoppers and we’re pleased to say everyone had fun.”

Summer make-up must haves

Ahead of our Style Your Summer event taking place from 31st May – 4th June we thought we would let you in on our make-up must haves for this summer.

1) Hoola bronzing powder – Benefit (£23.50)hoola-bronzer-23-50-benefit

This is one of our old favourites and really is hard to beat, this matte bronzer comes with a handy brush perfect for chiseling out those cheekbones or dusting this bronzer along your forehead. Whether you’re looking to create the perfect contour or achieve a sun kissed tan, Hoola can do it all.

Although slightly pricier than other bronzers this product really does last as you only need a small amount of powder as it is so pigmented (we’ve used it every day for a year and still have half left!).

2) Chocolate Bar eyeshadow palette – Too Faced (£39)

As far as eye shadow palettes go Chocolate Bar is one of the most wearable in terms of shades and lasting power. Not only do the antioxidant-rich cocoa powder infused shades smell amazing (so much so you almost want to eat them) they are silky soft to apply and highly pigmented so you only need a small amount of product, they also last all day.web_chocolatebar_open_updated

With a mix of 16 matte and shimmer shades, this palette can create an endless number of looks all year round and also includes a how-to guide with three looks to get you started. Our favourite summer look consists of Salted Caramel in the crease (transition shade), Creme Brulee on the lid and Gilded Ganache under the lower lash line and outer corners of the lid. Delectable!

3) Doublewear stay in place eye pencil – Estee Lauder (£16.50)

This long-wearing eye pencil comes in a variety of shades, it lines and defines your eye with an even colou1ES838Y14001r that lasts all day and you will rarely need to re-apply. It’s lightweight, creamy formula glides on easily and it has a smudger on the end of the pencil to create a smokey or softer effect if desired. You can wear it alone or on top of eye shadow or liquid eyeliner, on both the lower and/or bottom lash line.

For a summer look we love Teal (a bluey/green shade) on top of dark brown powder on the lower lash line, also the shade Night Violet on it’s own gives your eyes a gorgeous purple pop of colour.

4) Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter  – Urban Decay (£19)Sin

You can use a little or a lot of this product depending on just how glowy you want to go, it comes in three shades and our favourite is Sin (right) which is a pearly shimmer colour that would suit most skin tones. It has a soft creamy texture which is easy to blend.

Use above your contour (between your cheekbone and eye) where the light would naturally hit your face for a subtle summer glow.

5) Juicy Tubes lip gloss –Lancôme (£17)Juicy tubes

Not only do they look great but these lip glosses taste and smell amazing!  The tube-tip applicator helps you to apply the gloss easily and the result is a glamorous shine on your lips with a hint of colour.

They come in a range of sorbet colours with a fruity flavour perfect for summer, we love the shades Sorbet de Cerise (coral / pinky shade) and Fraise (a hint of bright pink – right).

All products shown above are available at Debenhams.

Spring clean your make-up bag

Spring is well and truly here and a new season sparks change, it’s time to spring clean your make-up bag and invest in some new products!

Follow these six tips to clean up your make-up bag and create a fresh new look this season.Make up bag

1) Make-up bag  a dirty cosmetics bag can be a breeding ground for bacteria so you should really change this every 12 months or so. If you don’t want to part with it then many make-up bags are machine washable, or if they have a waterproof lining you can clean with soap and water or antibacterial wipes.

We love the Victoria Green range of make-up bags at Debenhams, the Brighton Cosmetics Pouch (right) is our favourite (£8).

2) Brushes – these need cleaning regularly as they easily gather bacteria and dirty brushes can often be the causes of break outs, eye and skin infections.

Use the Bare Minerals ‘Brush Conditioning Shampoo’ (£10) to wash away traces of dirt, make-up, oil and debris, it also conditions the brush fibres for a soft finish.

3) Foundation – this will generally last for one to two years, if yours looked separated or has changedEstee Lauder BB colour it’s time to get rid! For spring / summer invest in a lighter or BB foundation  ideally with an SPF to protect from the sun, particularly if you are going on holiday.

Try Estee Lauder ‘Double Wear All Day Glow BB Moisture Make Up’ (£29). This lightweight oil-free make-up protects skin with SPF30 while brightening skin tone and creating a flawless, healthy glow. It comes in a range of shades to suit all skin tones and blends into the skin beautifully.

4) Bronzer  chuck any powders that are cracked or broken as they only create mess and put an uneven amount of product on your brushes. Use bronzer to create a buildable tan all year round, dust along the edge of your forehead and under cheekbones to create a natural sun-kissed glow.

‘Ready Bronzer’ (£24) from Bare Minerals is a compact all natural bronzer with rich golden tones. Available in 3 shades this product is ideal for adding a bronzed glow to dull skin.pop lip

5) Lipstick  lipstick has a live span of about two years, replace darker wintery shades of reds and browns with more subtle tones for spring such as pinks, peaches and nudes.

Clinique ‘Pop Lip’ lipstick has a weightless formula merging bold, saturated colour with a smoothing primer and keeps lips moisturised for 8 hours. Try ‘Melon Pop’ for a peachy-pink shade (£16).

6) Mascara mascara generally has a shelf life of 3 to 6 months, throw away anything dried out or clumpy. No make-up look is complete without mascara and it is probably THE most important item you can own, opening up your eyes to make them look bigger, bolder and more defined.

Benefit’s roller-lash-660x234 new ‘Roller Lash’ mascara (£19.50) creates a super girly look. The Hook n’ Roll brush separates, lifts and curls lashes creating a volumised curl which holds for 12 hours.

So what are you waiting for? Get spring cleaning and shopping, our make-up picks are all available at Debenhams The Rock.
